More Than Just a Job – Customer Service Careers at Discover
A few of our employees share perspective from their individual career journeys in Customer Service here at Discover.
Stephanie, Lead Workforce Management

I originally started at Discover as a part-time employee, only two days a week. I wanted to make a little extra money for when I had my daughter. Originally, it was just about the paycheck. [23] years later, I’ve had unbelievable opportunities and have grown an incredible amount. I’ve moved up through several organizations, got my bachelor’s degree, and now my two daughters work here. All because I took that first part time role.
It didn’t take long as a part time employee before I realized that I wanted to go through full Customer Service training. As a Customer Service Agent, I honestly really enjoyed talking to customers. From there, I was quickly promoted to mentor, then coach, and after three attempts, to Team Leader. Once I became a Team Leader, I had wonderful mentors who pushed me to get “uncomfortable” and really challenge myself. I eventually moved to the workforce management team and haven’t stopped learning since. I’ve taken pieces from every position I’ve had and carried them into my next role. I’m still looking forward to leveraging my utility belt of knowledge on future opportunities.

In different jobs, I never know how someone is going to react to LGBTQ+ identities, so I’ve spent most of my career not being authentic. At Discover, it’s been really nice to not feel judged at work. Now that I work in a place where I can be myself, it is something I have a hard time allowing myself to do so. Thankfully, I have received nothing but acceptance here at Discover.
Brittnee, Team Leader

Discover has helped me so much in professional development. Before Discover, I had been in other leadership positions but it was only a job. Here, I’ve been able to develop into a true leader and showcase my passions. Before Discover, I was in college to get my teaching degree so helping others learn is my passion. Now I use my abilities to develop my agents. I’ve had opportunities to learn about networking, to help with my public speaking, and to learn how to have an effective conversation.
