My personal brand

My brand is a combination of creativity, open mindedness, and swagger. I love to be creative, think outside the box, and leverage my background and skills. From my office and my team, to my wardrobe— everything is super consistent with my personal and professional brand.

Fueled by passion

I’m passionate about mentoring and developing people. As a leader, I love when those “a-ha” moments happen, and it just clicks for my employees. I’m passionate about employee experience and enjoy documenting all the good work Discover team members do through video.

I also believe there is a lot of untapped talent; not only internally, but in our communities. I stay connected to local non-profits and young professional groups to continue to grow and keep a pulse on talent. I see a lot of individuals that just need one opportunity to shine, and I want to be their advocate to Shine Bright®.

A rule I live by

99% of things don’t matter. The thing you’re upset about probably won’t matter in a week, month, or year. Those moments where I could slip into negative self-talk or feelings, I reflect on the “99 percent philosophy” and think about all the blessings I have. It’s all about having gratitude.

My “why”

Being a positive influence in my daughter’s life is most important. I grew up in a single parent home, and I know the impacts of not having a father present. When my wife was pregnant, I attended every appointment. I was the first person to see my daughter, and we’ve been inseparable ever since.

We have family conversation cards at our dinner table. Each night, my daughter asks us three questions we answer and provide context for. It’s amazing, at nine, the positive impact and outlook we’re able to influence in her. She means the world to me and she’s truly my “why.”

As a family, each year we take a trip to Santa Claus, Indiana, and French Lick Resort. It’s Christmas all year round there. We also love to decorate, put up our Christmas village, watch movies, and hang out with family and friends. Growing up, Christmas was the Super Bowl to the kids in our family, and my wife and I have kept that feeling for our daughter.

Intentional action

Last fall, the BOLD ERG leaders met with the executive committee, and one asked how BOLD could have more impact. A suggestion was made to spend time with some of the employees in Chatham to help mentor. I challenged the idea by saying I believe we should all own a part in Chatham’s future; however, we have an obligation to the employees back in our regions to also provide them with the same opportunities.

Being BOLD means to do what’s right no matter what’s at stake. Speaking up or advocating for something or someone may not always be popular but if you believe in the cause, you must be BOLD and stand on it.
