Job Description:

What You will Do

Responsible for the technical development and quality delivery of software engineering solutions. Leads a team of engineers within a Discover application development area while using your technical expertise to drive vision into action and results. Develop and coach teams to be able to identify, manage, and escalate risk, and effectively manage risk within the teams you oversee.

How You Will Do It

  • Mentor and lead a staff of engineers in both technical and soft skills to craft a team of highly technical competent, consistent, thoughtful, and customer-centric technology experts. This includes ensuring the group is adhering to principles of excellence within their technical domain, applying consistency of technical execution, sharing common practices and challenges within the team, and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning within the team.

  • Leads and utilizes technical skills to contribute as an engineer within a product team designing, developing code, and maintaining quality technology solutions for a product or set of products including developing own subject matter expertise. Demonstrated experience in multiple software languages, modern software methods, CI/CD, cloud, and automated testing.

  • Hire, retain and lead high-functioning, diverse groups of engineering professionals, establishing clear objectives and key results, developing a consistent set of practices and processes across the team, and driving towards the resolution of challenging problems. This includes all performance management aspects of leading the engineers including acquiring and providing 360 feedback and administering reviews. Manages software ownership and development from initial concept through continuous improvement.

  • Lead and shape the technical vision within their product team and be an essential member of leadership team including acting as a leader in the Discover engineering community affecting and advancing the architecture across the company and ensuring adherence to all regulatory, compliance and audit requirements. This includes defining how technical work will be done, selecting appropriate tools, defining technology, quality, experience and implementation standards and practices within own technical domain.

  • Work with key stakeholders to efficiently and effectively allocate team members to product teams to meet business and Product area objectives.

Qualifications You Will Need

The Basics

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Engineering, or related field

  • 6+ years of experience in Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related.

Physical & Cognitive Requirements

  • Primarily remain in a stationary position.

  • No required movement about the work environment to complete major responsibilities of the job.

  • Primarily performed indoors in an office setting.

  • Ability to operate office equipment such as but not limited to computer, telephone, printer, and calculator.

  • Ability to communicate verbally. Ability to communicate in written form.

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Extensive knowledge of Connex Switching system architecture and environment database.

  • Experienced in modernization of legacy platforms and technologies

  • Experienced in building platforms and services using REST APIs & Microservices Architecture

  • Experienced in cloud-native architecture and AWS or other Cloud technologies

  • Expertise in Connex components like AP and PI, with hands-on experience in design, coding, and testing

  • 2+ years of People Management

  • Hands-on experience with CED database and related tools

  • Skilled in managing change control files and utilities (CMSUTIL, SWAPBLD, SWAPROLL, CEDUTIL)

  • Knowledgeable in CED database security, including user access and data/file security

  • Familiar with utilities such as FUP, Pathway, Inspect, Histrpt, and Logcan

  • Proficient in TAL programming language and TACL

  • Experienced with ATM and POS device driving, scheme and interchange links, card and account authorization services, and key management/validation using Thales and SafeNet HSMs

  • Background in banking and payment domains, including transaction processing, merchant acquiring/issuing, and batch processing.

  • In-depth knowledge of ISO standards and message formats

  • Skilled in using TAL, Cobol, Tandem, and Non-Stop

  • Experience with Paragon Simulator and JIRA

  • Knowledge of financial industry practices, regulations, and operations

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Compensation:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $107,000.00 to $180,200.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
