Sophomore Spark Program Dives into Digital Banking

In May, Discover®, now part of Capital One, welcomed 65 sophomore students from over 40 colleges and universities to Riverwoods for the 2025 Sophomore Spark program. Hosted by the Emerging Talent Acquisition & Development team, this three-day immersive experience is designed to help students build professional skills, grow their networks, and gain early insight into the banking industry.

Students participated in breakout sessions tailored to their areas of interest, engaged in technical and case study interview prep, and attended workshops on personal branding and agile methodology. They heard from leaders throughout the company who shared career journeys, leadership insights, and personal reflections—all aimed at inspiring the next generation.

Students also connected directly with members of our Employee Resource Groups, participated in a community service project, and had time to unwind and bond with fellow peers.

Many employees, including interns and full-time team members, first engaged with the company through programs like Sophomore Spark. By providing real-world industry knowledge, leadership exposure, and authentic insights, we’re giving students a unique and competitive edge as they prepare for future opportunities!

Sophomores not only gained hands-on experience but also made new connections and had fun along the way throughout their three days in Riverwoods.
