*Only U.S. employees classified as a full-time, flex part-time or regular part-time employee (“Employee”) are eligible for this benefit for their first bachelor’s degree, which covers tuition and required supplies, books and fees after grants have been applied. Discover will pre-pay tuition directly to the university. Expenditures on qualified fees, books and supplies will be reimbursed. In addition, to be eligible, employee must be in active status, in good standing with the company and maintain a 2.0 grade point average or higher as described in Discover’s Education Assistance Program Handbook. Employees must utilize the company process to apply for this benefit and complete all required company forms, university application(s) and a Free Application for Federal Aid (“FAFSA”). Employees terminated from the Company are required to refund to the Company all covered tuition, fees, and reimbursements received within 24 months prior to the Employee’s last day of employment.

00:24 really dealing with problems that have

00:26 not been solved before so when you

00:27 finally do solve that issue and you

00:30 understand that hey maybe we were the

00:31 first ones to do this that's what your

00:33 engineering is I love actually trying to

00:35 solve the real-life problems we use

00:36 mathematics to actually catch bad guys

00:39 I get really proud when I see my team's

00:42 application on the screens around the

00:44 company customers are very unforgiving

00:46 when they get disrupted at the same time

00:48 fraudsters are becoming very

00:50 sophisticated and very well organized so

00:52 that challenges us to hit that moving

00:54 target and it's also something that

00:56 makes it fun we have to set ambitious

00:57 goals there's always different

01:00 opportunities to train it and grow you

01:02 have mentors buddies your team is always

01:05 there to help you if I take care of my

01:08 team first my individual progress has no

01:11 choice but to flourish the management

01:14 team has been supportive of me as a

01:16 professional and as an individual

01:19 things to help bridge the gap for women

01:21 in technology I see my career growing a

01:24 lot here I discover there's a lot of

01:25 different opportunities for me to kind

01:27 of take my career in whichever direction

01:30 follows my passion I think working a

01:34 something new I can never tell what's

01:36 going to happen the next day I think

01:37 it's pretty boring when you work with

01:39 people that all are like you think the

01:41 same way as you or look exactly like you

01:43 and discover is not that way I love that

01:46 because it allows me to grow and to

02:05 should just look back and see oh these

Diversity and Inclusion

Internal Employee Resource Groups

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) help with career development by providing mentorship programs and fostering an inclusive community across all of our locations.

  • Discover has committed to The Chicago Network’s Campaign for Advancing Women Leaders in the Workplace Equity Pledge. The Pledge is a public commitment, which holds signers to the promise that they will work toward achieving 50% representation of women in leadership positions by 2030. The commitment includes abiding by the Equity Principles, a cornerstone of the Campaign, to remove barriers, define success, evolve culture, enhance community and maintain accountability.
  • Chicago Financial Services Pipeline Initiative (FSP) – We are still partners with the Chicago Financial Services Pipeline Initiative. In 2019, Discover identified a high-potential diverse employee to participate in the Corporate Inclusion Institute (CII). Created by Chicago United, the CII provides a comprehensive plan, practical tools, and support system for young diverse talent and their managers. Every element within CII is research-based, incorporating findings from a CEO task force as well as extensive input from Human Resource and Diversity and Inclusion professionals. The program reflects what Chicago United continues to learn from Chicago business leaders asked to identify specific challenges within their organizations.
  • In our Lake Park location, by EOY in 2018, there was increased membership by 23% from 2017. 51% of the Lake Park center population belongs to an ERG.
  • 35% of employees are members of an ERG.
  • Two ERGs have formed since the 2017 report – the Native American Professionals at Discover (N8V) and Green – Sustainability at Discover.
  • We now have a total of 11 groups and 41 chapters.

APAD: Asian Professionals at Discover

Open to all employees, APAD strives to develop the Asian American employees at Discover and to share the rich variety of Asian cultures with non-Asian employees through Lunch n Learns, keynote speakers and cultural events both inside and outside of Discover.

  • Mentorship Program into its 5th year, attracted over 100+ mentors and mentees with historical high Director and above mentors enrollment.
  • APAD Riverwoods leaders flew out to New York City to accept the award on behalf of all APAD chapters and Discover. All award submissions were done by APAD chapters company-wide.
  • 2019: Best Overall Employer for Asian Pacific Americans by Asia Society
  • 2019: Most Innovative Practices in the Category: Asian Pacific American Employee Resource Groups
  • 2019: Most Innovative Practices in the Category: LGBT Asian Employees

GOLD: Generation of Leadership at Discover

GOLD comprises of experienced employees at Discover and seeks to create and promote opportunities to positively impact their employees, customers and the community by sharing their unique experience, knowledge and talent.

HMV: Honoring Military & Veterans

!HOLA!: Helping Organize Latino Achievement

HOLA’s mission is to be at the center of the community by sharing insights that can help Discover achieve the full potential of its Latino employees, partners and customers. HOLA creates and develops the leaders of tomorrow through professional development, networking, cultural awareness and knowledge sharing.

N8V: Native American Leadership at Discover

To transform the strength and perseverance of the Native American community into ways that encourage growth and development within the workplace and to spread cultural awareness that will contribute to all affiliates of Discover.

PRIDE: LGBTQ+ Professionals at Discover

PRIDE’s mission is to unite the power and potential of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and ally employees in their careers, and to contribute to Discover customers, employees, suppliers and communities.

  • Discover it Pride card requests and spend continue to grow, up to 167K unique accounts and $424 million spend since launch in 2015​​.
  • Discover flew the Pride flag during the month of June to celebrate Pride month for the first time in 2018 at the Riverwoods, Lake Park, New Albany, and Phoenix locations​ and in 2019 the Pride Flag was hanging at all DFS US Locations
  • Successful participation in the annual Chicago, Columbus, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Salt Lake City Pride Parades.
  • In May 2019 Pride card marketing was expanded to be displayed in the LA Blade and Bay Area Reporter print publications on a bi-weekly basis (two ads per month, within each publication)
